Our Brands in the 1960s

Below is an account by Mr Gordon Claughton who contacted our company in December 2010, 49 years after first being our customer. Mr Claughton recalls:

“… I was introduced to the shop by a RAF friend and at my first visit I ordered my Cinelli Corsa. Another of my friends also bought one sometime later. Peter Moir arrived from the UK and while waiting for his bikes to arrive he bought a Legnano.

We often called in the shop to have some work done or just for a social chat and the latest gossip. We always got a cold drink and on some occasions I joined the staff for lunch, seem to remember a pastry filled with spicy vegetables. Peter was not a lover of Eastern food so declined.

I also borrowed a track bike a Fugi Feather that I believe belonged to the shop but was for the use of Raffi bin Bahrawi.

Apart from giving free drinks at the finish of events we were given racing caps from Legnano.”

Mr Claughton purchased a Cinelli Corsa from Cecil Street store in 1961

“… The date on the receipt should be 1962”

“… the bike is as rebuilt by me. I built with as near as possible to the original. I had the saddle, front gear , cable clips and pump holder (less chrome work) all other parts were late 60`s early 70`s this is the frame I bought at  the Cecil St shop. Now with a collector.”
