Association formed to bolster safety
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Manpower, the commercial diving industry has come together to set up the Commecial Diving Association (Singapore).
Professionalism and Recognition
Safety is the central pillars of the Commercial Diving Association (Singapore). The Association is tasked with establishing and ensuring safety standards through the industry.
To this end, the Association does not work in isolation but in cooperation with the Workforce Development Agency and Ministry of Manpower (see “Safety”).
In order to establish, maintain and upgrade these safety standards, diver training and certification is central.
The Association is now studying options for diver accreditation. While the plans are still being formed, the path is clear: The Association will progressively move toward certification to ensure that those working in the industry are trained; and that the industry can move ahead in professionalism.
To cater to those already in the industry, the CDA(S) will initially recognize experience of divers, though every diver should look towards training, certification and continuing learning opportunities.
